Personal Statement
September-May:
The personal statement is the hardest essay for students to write, largely because it can feel so elusive. I work with your student to break down the prompts, brainstorm effective narratives, get pen to paper, and revise, revise, revise. Throughout the process, I work in relevant content and structure exercises and examples. We set up a series of personal deadlines at the beginning of our time to give us a solid trajectory, and the goal is to write it within six weeks.
June-August
I have held summer classes on the personal statement for the past three years, and it is one of my favorite ways to approach the larger essay. My classes represent the best strategies and content that I have learned over the years, and it is a great way to jumpstart the college writing process. There is more content in my classes than in my 1:1 sessions, and it is a great option for any student feeling intimidated by the process. Class students have the option to roll on as Comprehensive students upon completion.

Comprehensive Writing
Most students will have a number of essays to write each summer, as individual colleges have specific questions and essays they request in addition to the personal statement. My comprehensive students are those with whom I walk through the entire process - we create deadlines for the year, brainstorm and work through all prompts together, meet on a regular basis, and cover additional application elements, such as the Activity List. In addition, comprehensive students have priority calendar access. My comprehensive student roster takes priority over other services, and I have both a 5 and 10 school package.
